1. Python Pip: VCS Source Installation & Requirements.txt
Python developers frequently install bleeding-edge development packages or private forks directly from GitHub repositories using Pip’s VCS (Version Control System) syntax:
# 1. Direct CLI installation
pip install git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/psf/requests.git
# 2. Specifying a particular branch or tag
pip install git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/encode/[email protected]
# 3. Specifying a subfolder within a Monorepo
pip install "git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/pallets/flask.git#subdirectory=src"
In requirements.txt
To ensure automated builds and team environments enjoy accelerated pulls without manual intervention:
# requirements.txt
git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/huggingface/transformers.git#egg=transformers
git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/vllm-project/[email protected]#egg=vllm
2. macOS Homebrew: Accelerating Formulas, Taps & Bottles
On macOS, Homebrew relies heavily on GitHub repositories for Core taps, Casks, and third-party formulas:
# Configure Git to route Homebrew tap fetches via the proxy
git config --global url."https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/".insteadOf "https://github.com/"
# Update Homebrew indices smoothly
brew update
When installing precompiled binary bottles that download directly from GitHub Release assets, Homebrew will automatically route through the accelerated URL when configured in your environment.
3. Rust Cargo: Git Dependencies in Cargo.toml
Rust packages often pull unreleased Git crates directly from GitHub inside Cargo.toml:
[dependencies]
# Directly prefixing the repository URL
serde = { git = "https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/serde-rs/serde.git", branch = "master" }
Global Override via ~/.cargo/config.toml
Rather than editing every individual Cargo.toml, you can leverage Git’s global URL rewriting so that Cargo’s underlying libgit2 uses the streaming proxy:
git config --global url."https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/".insteadOf "https://github.com/"
4. Go Modules: Accelerating GitHub Packages
While public Go modules often resolve through public mirrors (goproxy.cn or proxy.golang.org), internal packages, GOPRIVATE modules, or repos using go get with direct Git dependencies benefit from proxy routing:
# Set Git to transparently rewrite GitHub repos for Go
git config --global url."https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/".insteadOf "https://github.com/"
# Download modules directly
go get -u github.com/gin-gonic/gin
5. Toolchains Quick Configuration Cheatsheet
| Toolchain | Native Failure Mode | Accelerated Configuration Pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Python Pip | Connection timeout on pip install git+... | pip install git+https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/... |
| macOS Homebrew | brew update hangs during Git pull | git config --global url."https://ghproxy.icu/...".insteadOf ... |
| Rust Cargo | cargo build stalls on Updating git repository | Global insteadOf rewrite or prefix in Cargo.toml |
| Go CLI | go get times out fetching repo tags | Global insteadOf rewrite or proxy prefix |
| Node.js npm | npm install git+https://... fails | npm install https://ghproxy.icu/https://github.com/... |
